    Mitchell,

I haven't had to deal with auctions yet so no personal experience.

Have you searched for other posts in the forums about auctions?  It's helpful if you can be more specific with your questions.  Here's one past forum thread on auctions.  http://forums.blackbaud.com/forums/p/18350/199608.aspx#199608  Or this one: http://forums.blackbaud.com/forums/p/12126/42143.aspx#42143

Another source to look at might be fund services - not everyone uses RE but many do and there are some very knowledgeable people.  You can search their archives.  www.fundsvcs.org

Sorry, not my area of knowledge.

Hi, I'm not sure what you need but here is what we do. We enter all items donated as a GIK (one item per gift entry) with the event appeal the donation is associated with and assign a package (silent auction, surprise box, etc...) The gift is entered as in kind. Please note that our finance office does not book GIK. We enter to handle acknowledgments. donor publications, lifetime giving etc.. with our organization. If no value is provided the GIK is entered with a zero value. Once the items are entered into RE we can run reports on based on package that allow our event planners to group items/create packages. The grouping is recorded outside of Re. The grouping/packing of silent auction items determines the FMV we list on the 'advertisement' at the silent auction. For the winner of the silent auction item we entered the wining bid as a gift, appeal associated with event, receipt value of zero (we've yet to have someone pay more than the FMV of the package --- i'm sure this can happen just hasn't happened for us.) We acknowledge the winning bid and payment with a letter stating we are grateful for the winning bid, hoped they enjoyed the event etc... The letter clearly indicates that a good or service was received. Hope this helps. J
