Recording recoverable grants and PRIs in The Raiser's Edge?

Options
Hi all,

My organization is starting to accept some more complex types of funding, and I'm wondering how other organizations may be recording things like recoverable grants and PRIs (Partially Recoverable Investments).

For my organization, these are large contributions, each of which has its own legal agreement between the organization and the donor/contributor. Basically, these are a cross between a grant and a loan - the donor/contributor sends a certain amount of money to the organization, receives tax benefits while the organization is using the funds, then is paid back either in part or in full.

I'm trying to decide how best to record these in RE without messing up gift reporting. We want to be sure this type of gift is clearly visible in a donor's record, since most of them are coming from current major donors and we want to be sure we're acknowledging the full extent of each donor's involvement. However, since these contributions will be paid back either in part or in full, and not necessarily in the same year they were made, I don't want to throw off gift reporting. We could certainly record them in a note on a donor record, but I'm hoping there might be some more visible way to do it.

Any experience with or thoughts on this issue would be greatly appreciated!
