Addressee and Salutations

Options

I inherited a database which was a nightmare. I am getting frustrated at the way the addressee and salutations have been set up. When I go into Config and try to see what we have as far as set ups for addressees and salutations it shows a list like:

Mr. and Mrs. Mike Smith

Dr. and Mrs. M. Smith

Mrs. R. Smith and Mr. M. Smith

But when I go to an individuals record all I see is this:

Addressee/Salu81

Addressee/Salu56

Addressee/Salu1

We have been trying to print labels and such and I just can't get them to print the way we would like and I know it's because the addressee and salutation hasn't been set up correctly.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thank you so much!

When you're in a constituent record, that is the list in the left side of the window?  If so, that's the name someone has given to that add/sal format.  Mine have names like Joint - Formal, Joint - Informal, Single - Formal......  That may be the # of the add/sal format if you look at the whole list.  Each one has a #.  In config > Add/sal if you right click you get option to preview report.  That will show you each add/sal in your system and how it is formated.

If I were you I'd create a case with Blackbaud, do a screen share and have them help you figure out what you have.  They may be able to help you with renaming or at least make sense out of what you have in your RE - finding the formats that you want.  Hard to know what to tell you not knowing what changes were made to your RE.

Fixing it may be a time consuming thing.  You'll need to decide what formats you want.  You have to watch for couples with different last names, those with nicknames (RE doesn't have smart function to use / not use like I wish)   I used global add when I needed to make some major changes.  You could try doing it by import.

Finally can log in to RE!!  The names for the add/sal that appear in the left side can be found if you go to Configuration > Tables > Add/Sal Types.  That's where those are coming from. :)  As I formated mine several years ago, I can't remember what that screen would be like as a default.
