Is it possible to compare the Spouse Last Name with the primary constituent Last Name?

Options

Because of some quirks in the way our old database worked, people who share a membership with my organization were marked as spouses in RE when we switched over, even if they were unrelated.

In order to correct this, I'm trying to make a list of all spouses which have a different last name than the primary constituent.  However, structuring a query to search for this is proving to be tricky, since I can't figure out a way to compare these fields directly, rather than querying for a specific value.

I asked BB how I could accomplish this, and received this response:

I have no clue what this person is talking about. I have never heard of any way to compare two fields in RE - ever. I have always had to do this using an export and excel tools.

Thank you Melissa. I was sitting here thinking that if I had missed learning/figuring out how to do something as helpful as this I was going to just hang it up!

The Spouse/Last/Group/Household stuff does not look like RE at all. Are you sure they were not thinking of another product like Blackbaud CRM or eTapestry?

    Ah, that's the problem then.

Looking back at my case, it seems they thought I was asking about ResearchPoint rather than RE.

Is there no way to make this kind of list in RE then?

Ditto Teresa.  I was wonder same thing - how've I missed this function?  New to me, too.

Would be nice to have at time. :)

I was wondering if I had missed something too!

I would just create a query of all the records in your database that has a spouse attached/linked to the record.  Output the fields you would like to see (may want to run it through an export to remove any dups).  Then be sure to export out last name and spouse last name for sure.  You'll have to compare the two fields in Excel, if A1 = A2, then "same", else "different" or something similar.  Use the formula creator in Excel, it is pretty slick.

     Good luck!

Nope = just the export to excel option that several people offered.
