Write-offs in an individual query?

Options

I need to do some analysis on individuals who have multiple write-off's on pledges over the past few years credited to our phone-a-thon.  Is there a way to do this in an individual query or will I need to run gift queries or the write off report to make a query?  I'm hoping for something dynamic that I can use for segmenting in the near future.  I'm going to check out the summary information possibilities now, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

I am not sure I am getting what you are asking. You want to create an individual query of people who need their pledges written off? I have not tried it but if it is possible, why do you need it in this format and not a gift query? What if a person has one good pledge and one that needs to be written off, or two that need to be written off? will an individual query still suffice?

I don't need a group of people that need their pledges written off, but who had their pledges written off for a specific appeal.  I am looking at people who have multiple write-off's to phone-a-thon appeals.  We are considering keeping them in the calling pool, but to push harder for the credit card donation instead of a pledge card.  I was able to do some analysis from the Write-off report and export it out into Excel, but it would be nice to have a dynamic individual query that I can just update the appeals to include and have my group.

Maybe I'm over simplifiying - Have you tried a gift query: Gift Information > Gift Type > equals Write Off?  You can add criteria for your appeals, gift dates or anything else you need. This should pull a list of all the gifts with write offs, full gift and partial.  Just sort by sort key or Name and you should be able to see who's listed multiple times.

Is there something else that you needed so that this doesn't give you enough info?

I would think the easiest way to get this would be to use a pre-canned report for write offs. Reports/Pledge and Recurring Gift Reports/Written Off Report. Choose New report. Enter your date/fund/gift type, etc. filters. Boom. Easy Peasy! Oh, and you can check off the "Create a ______ query (gift or constituent drop down) on the first page of the report set up so you'll have a query to work with if you so desire as well.

When I try the query route for gift type = Write off, I get records, but when I limit it to our phone-a-thon appeals, I get 0 records.  I can get the info via the Written-off report and then export the report into Excel and do a pivot table to get my names/id's of people with more than one write off and then make a query of those, but I was hoping for a little more automation.  <insert whine here>.  Thanks for the suggestions!

If you want anyone with a write-off: CRITERIA Gift information>Gift Type=Write-off OUTPUT Name Gift Date Gift Type Gift Amount etc. If you want anyone with more than one write-off: CRITERIA Summary>Summary for Gift>Total Number of Gifts>Operator=Greater than one>Filter>Gift Type=Write-off OUTPUT will give you ALL gift types not just Write-offs. But it will eliminate those with only one write-off.
