A Note About Widgets in Facebook

There have been several support calls concerning Widgets and the Facebook application. Facebook is very particular about how the data we send to them is presented and Widgets just don't work. This is one of the many reasons we developed a facebook application in the first place, Facebook does not play well with Convio Widgets. I mentioned this at the summit, and I'll repeat it here. Please do not insert widgets onto the canvas pages you present within your facebook application. They will not work, in that they don't update properly. If you want to drive facebook members to sign up for a widget, mention it is text and provide a link to your Convio page where they can sign up for the widget. Be sure to tell them they can not paste the widget code into Facebook, but they can in many other places including MySpace, Ning, and Care2.
