Housefile building should take place all year round; in fact the most successful organizations have a 12 month plan for acquiring new emails. The key to success is a mix of small tactics like collecting names at events and having a Facebook enews signup to running integrated multi-week campaigns.

 

When it comes to running a campaign you first need to know your audience - figure out what interests them about the organization and what drives them to take action. Once you understand their motivations you can identify the carrot (and theme) for your campaign. Is it a photo voting contest, a give-a-way, a pledge to take action, an eBook signup or something else? There are so many creative, moving and provocative ideas out there, the trick is figuring out what resonates with your audience so that they will spread the message and get people to signup too.
