Looking for Map Tool

Options
Hello!

I was not sure where to put this request, but I'm looking for some free, if possible, software to depict geographic data points from a recent event.

I found one product - Mapline - but that only allows 500 datapoints and we have closer to 800.

We want to show the concentration of donors in specific neighborhoods who attended an event

Thanks for any help!

Joanne

Thanks Sandra!  Someone else mentioned that tool but they only take up to 250 data points in their free product. Plus I'm trying to show that there are 20 people at the same zip code and it only puts on pin in that location. Do you know if BatchGeo has that capability (putting a pin for each time a zip appears on the list)? And if so how to set it to do that?
  • Have you looked at Google My Maps? It's fairly intuitive, but it'd live outside of RE7. Also, not sure what their limit is on data points.

If you hit the ceiling on that, you'd need to move to Google Fusion Tables. It's not as easy to use as My Maps, but it's somewhat similar to a spreadsheet, and has a fair amount of documentation. The time investment may be well worth it, as it's insanely robust and has some really nifty map visualization tools. And, it'll geocode your addresses (I think it limits how many per day, but you can just split the task across a couple of days).

You can even combine maps from different fusion tables with the FusionTableLayer wizard. It's basically a simple interface for using the Google Maps API to combine maps (a developer can help make it even more fancy, with interactive controls, custom layouts, and more).

Fusion tables would summarize too. For an example, go to this public zip code table, and choose the tools > summarize, and choose zip from the first dropdown. While you're there, you can click on the red plus sign at the top, and choose "add map." It'll take a second for that to load (lots of shapes), but you'll see a blue button at the top that says "filter." Choose state there, and you can really start to see the power available.

I think you'll need a free google account to make these. A gmail login will work.
  • Thanks Jeremy!

Google My Maps gave me exactly what I needed :)
