Donors who share email addresses and it's impact on Records and Receipting

Options
Hi all, I need some help, I don't know what I've done wrong but I'm having a heck of a time with the large number of donors in my organization who SHARE email addresses (yes, I don't get it either). This is really impacting me lately now that we are amping up our big signature run and we are having a large volume of donations.

Here's what happens, Jane Smith, her husband John and their 2 kids Jenny and Rich all share the same email address theSmiths@whatdoyoumeanemailsarefree.com. Jane comes to our TR event and decides to make 4 separate donations to their friend Lucy Runs who is participating in our signature event. Jane makes a donation in her name first, using their cutesy family email...then she does the same in Johns name using the cute email address, then for kids...then she makes one on behalf of her grandma who lives in Florida, again using the family email...and now all the receipts are issued in Jane's name and even grammas, who had a different address that Jane entered in, are all addressed to Jane Smith.

Surely there must be a setting I'm missing? One that would say...well the email address is the same, but the first name and/or last name is way off, so maybe this is a new record.

I'm stumped here, and vi casnt keep spending hours updating receipts. It doesn't look good on us.

Help!

  • To the folks who also have this question, I've contacted my CSM and she's brought it to the attention of some of the engineers. I'll update this post once we work out a solution!
  • Hi Ali -

Aside from the fun of data hyigene, communication and a configuration change can help: Recognition Name.

Recognition Name on the donation form will allow Jane to make infinity transactions where different names appear on their friend's donor roll.

There are also other optional settings for how the donor roll is configured - there are "Public Recognition Fields" from the Design Donor Screens" step:
