Globally update fields in the gift misc tab, can this be done?

Options
Hello,

I would like to update our "Marketing Source Code" and "Finder Number" fields on the Miscellaneous gift tab.   Is there a way to do this using Import-O-Matic, or any other way?   The "Globally Change Records" in RE doesn't allow for updates to those fields.

Appreciate any help with this.

  • I don't know about Import-O-Matic, but you can change these fields using RE > Admin > Import.  You must have the Security Rights to use Import, and if you've never used it before, it can be dangerous like Global Add/Change/Delete.  Import will allow you to create an Import File...so you can do that to create a file of the Gifts you want to change, then change the data (in a txt or csv file) and then turn the option in the Import record to Import back the same file, and you're done.  I suggest doing a file of 3-5 records, check them out and be sure it's good, and then do the whole set of them.
  • Jen's summary of the process is spot on, though I typically use query+export to get the data out of RE, then change it in a .csv file, and then import it - either way works.

If you're super uncomfortable doing this, I'd suggest jumping on chat support. Those folks held my hand through my first few big import projects, and now I use import on a regular basis confidently.
  • Curious - what do you use those two fields for? Our organization has never used them.
  • I use one of the Misc Tab Fields for a Pledge ID (the Gift ID of the Pledge/Recurring Gift, that automatically appears on all of the payments) for use in some processes outside RE to easily connect the payments to the correct pledge.  I use another for the Journal Entry numbers from our finance system, entered during the reconciliation process...helps a lot down the road when trying to locate the corresponding transaction in that system.  I've relabeled both fields in RE Config, so I can't tell you which is which, but the third (there's also Marketing Segment) is currently hidden and empty.

Sorry for the delay.   I'm using them for Fiscal Year, and solicitation year.
