We are getting ready to send out our anuual appeal.  We now have a staff of three (instead of two and want to be a litle more sophisticated.)  Blackbaud privided a link:

How to create an appeal letter with a suggested gift amount based on the previous amount the constituent has given

But I had a second question. We have a number of donors on our lists who have never made a gift, I'm looking for guidance on this.  Is it more productive to ask for a dollar amount or is it bound to be to irritate a potential donor.

Any thoughts or observations are greatly apprecitated.

Many thanks,

  • A suggested amount is effective, especially if you can say what that money will do. For example, $15 will provide a class for one client, etc.

Agree with Sunshine - include an amount and say what that amount will do.  Especially for new donors gives them an idea of amount you're looking for, what your org can/will do with it/who it can help and how.
