Trustee as Donor

Options
Hello Everyone,

We have received a donation from an individual who is the trustee of an estate. I was wondering how other institutions handled these type of donation in the Raiser's Edge. I figured the donor should be listed as an individual separate from their regular individual constituent record. But how should we distinshish one record from the other? For example, do you use Joyce Black (Trustee)  or add Trustee to the titles table?

Thank you in advance.

Is the gift from the estate?  If so, we add a separate record Joyce Estate.
  • The donor wrote the check from the Estate, but the check has Donor Name Trustee, so we have a separate record. I was thinking we could just create an alias for the name under the donor's original record and that will keep the giving together. Or should we just soft credit the donor's original record and keep the Trustee record?
  • What Joann said.  That person that is on the list as a Trustee, is there because someone has to sign the checks.  In some situations it is an attorney, in others it is an individual that the decedent has requsted as executor/trix.  So the funds are always from the estate not the individual.  I always put the trustee as a relationship to the estate/main contact.
