Auto-logging emails sent from an email client as actions or attachments in RE.

My organization formerly used SalesForce as our CRM but is currently transitioning to RE7 & RE NXT.


The #1 feature we are looking to replicate from SF to RE is what we call "BCC to SalesForce."  Each SF user gets an individual BCC to SalesForce email address. Whenever we send an email to a constituent, we put the constituent's email in the "To" field and the BCC to SalesForce address in the "CC" field. This sends an email into the SF system and looks for a match between the constituent email address and an email address we have in our database. If there is a match to a constituent that exists in our database, then an action is automatically created within that constituent's record with the summary being the email subject line, the assigned fundraiser the sender, and the description body of the action being the email body. This cuts down on having to double back and reinput a lot of correspondence.


Does anyone know of a workaround that achieves a similar outcome or heard of a third-party solution of the sort?


Would love to hear your ideas.

  • Raiser's Edge can be integrated with Outlook. I've never used this option (never got around to it at my last organization; doesn't make sense here) AND it sounds like it might solve some of your problems.     I've seen this documentation before, but it doesn't work because (and I should've specified before) that our organization is Mac-based and we use a hosted Blackbaud environment.


    I'm looking into some possible solutions from a UK-based organization called SmartTHING. Does anyone have any experience with them?

  • Our DD used SF at his last position and really wanted this feature with RE.  We have installed the Outlook intergration (not an easy task) and I am using it. It is not as smooth as SF.  When you send an email from Outlook you then have to click on Add-In and search for the donor. So really just that extra step unless you want to change the action in anyway - then you have to open the record to make the change.  I'm having to do that often because I am being bcc'ed on several emails that need to be actions - I have to then go in and change the solicitor to the original sender.  RE thinks it's me because I created the action item


    I did look into a UK based program - may be the one you mentioned.  Same problem.
  • I've had the same challenge and been pursuing an answer as well. SMARTthing was the only solution I found, though seemed to be an expensive add-on, so my org won't do it. REALLY REALLY a bummer and a huge opportunity for growth for BB. Please do respond to this if you have any luck finding an answer
