HTTP vs HTTPS URL Redirects

Options
Hi All,

When creating a URL redirect in BBNC, do you have to create 2 redirects per page? One for HTTP and the other for HTTPS?

Also, we've noticed that in some google searches, the url of the page includes the following extension: sslpage.aspx?pid=###. When we view the page internally, the same page ends with page.aspx?pid=###  (Note, no 'ssl' here). Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

Mike

  • Hi Michael,

There is no need to create two separate URL redirects for http and https.  I would recommend checking your site settings for SSL requirements to make sure pages are required to load over https.  (Administration > sites and settings)

The page id's that you are seeing come across in a browser if that page does not have friendly URL.  This will either display ssl or non ssl depending on how the browser session initiated for the website visit if SSL is not required.  Every NetCommunity page is created with a page ID.  By entering your own URL on that page's properties you can prevent the page/sslpage id from displaying in a search.

  • Thanks for your help Jared! Is it possible to save a page without a friendly URL?
  • Yes,  you can save any page without altering its URL.  In that case it will inherit the next available PageID in the system.

  • Any idea what the 'DeliveryChannelID' element is in the following URL?

    https://alumniandfriends.stonybrook.edu/stony-brook-matters---september-2014?DeliveryChannelID=23b56292-0f3c-43ac-af13-7767ad9d4057

When enter the following query into Google, the above link is provided: "Stony Brook Matters September 2014"

The DeliveryChannelID is preventing our redirect from working.
