Adding an email opt in option

Hello,


Due to the new fundraising regulations, I need to add a tick box to my donation form to opt people in to email correspondence. Does anyone know if this is possible through Online Express?

    If you are needing an opt-in on your Donation Page, you should be able to do that by creating a Gift Attribute and then add that to your Donation Pages.  Make it required so that the donor must select an option.  When you download gifts, this will appear as a Gift Attribute.  You'll then need to move the data to wherever it needs to go to opt the donor in or out.


    I have an Idea in the OLX Idea Bank for allowing a selection to be set as a default...in your case, once this is an option, I'd recommend setting this as Yes, and then allowing the donor to opt-out by changing that to No.  You might also search the Idea Bank for something more automated, and add it if you don't find something close/relevant.  Not sure how feasible this would be, because everyone handles opt-outs slightly differently, but it can't hurt to suggest it.  If you find something or post something, come back here and post a link so others can easily find and vote for the same Idea.

    Not sure if either of you are based in the UK ( but suspect Sarag may be) but if so having a tick as a default wouldn't be good enough for the kind of "unambiguous consent" we are going to need from donors going forward.


    Also, over here we're going to have to gain consent for each marketing channel explicitly not just a one box covers all type approach.

    Yikes, Matthew!  That sounds like a royal pain.  Now that I read your comment, I wonder if Sarag is on your side of the pond.  I'm in the States, so we don't have these requirements yet.  Wish everyone would just do what I do...I have a second email address that I use for signing up for things, then I can check that on my phone but not have it notify me, I can filter/hide/unsubscribe as needed, and nothing important gets lost in the shuffle.


    If this is where things are headed in the UK, I strongly recommend that someone post this as an Idea in the OLX Idea Bank, and also put in a request to Chris Martin for a phone call or three to discuss the issue and be sure that BB knows what will be required so they can be working on accommodating those requirements.
