Emails become Appeals?

Options
Hi all,

I'm new the forum! I've got a question about the "Add Data to RE" button after you send out emails. When I push it, it then creates an appeal for each individual email. Since we're planning to send multiple emails about the same thing (ex: we're raising money for a specific need, like washing machines) it doesn't seem to make sense to me for each of these to be it's own appeal. (Maybe it does, and you can explain why?) Is there a way to change the way the info gets recorded with that button?

Essentially, I'd love to be able to pull a report that gives the results from multiple emails - but I'm not sure how to do that if they are all separate appeals.

  • Each email message will be its own Appeal...the only possible way around this that I can think of is to push the data to RE, then use Export/Import or Global Add/Change to merge them all into one Appeal and delete the multiples from OLX.  But if you ever refresh that data from OLX (i.e. push it again), it will recreate all the separate Appeals.  My recommendation would be to use the separate Appeals, and after the initial push of each, add something (Appeal Category, Attribute, etc) to the Appeal Records so you can group them all together.  You can actually edit the Appeal Description without causing any problems...just don't touch the Appeal ID and OLX will still find/match it and update whenever you repush data.

I think you can use most of the canned Appeal reports to look at your data...most of them let you choose and compare different appeals.  Or you can export it and analyze it outside of RE.
  • Does anyone know if you can add a action from the appeal? i'd prefere them to be stored as actions and rather than doing a gloal add i wondered if there was a short cut?

    Thanks

  • Mikaela,

You can use Global Add or Export/Import to convert the Appeal Tags to Actions.  My recommendation would be to set up a system (well-documented) and thoroughly think thru what data will go where in the Action.  Then a Query so if you need to push the data to RE again, you have a way to figure out what Actions will need to be updated (for the Response).

I personally wouldn't recommend this...my feeling is that Appeals are for mass mailings/emailings (not necessarily just solicitations), and Actions are for customized communications...more 1:1 or smaller scale stuff.

If you are thinking about moving to NXT, you may want to hold off on this idea.  NXT displays data a little differently, and eventually OLX messages will have their own section, from what I understand.  My own wish would be that where Actions & Notes already display on the same NXT Tile, Appeals (and OLX Messages) would also appear there (with, of course, multiple filter buttons to show/hide any of the 4 types).
  • Like you, our emails are part of a larger communications strategy, but we combine it with our Direct Mail appeals. The only way I can think around this would eb to "Add Info to RE" after you are sure your email responses have pretty much died down, Query on the OLX data, and then use the Mail function to assign Packages to the constituents under one Appeal.

How do you use mail to assign packages?
