Org2 Parent Corp

Options
What is the suggested use of Parent Corp located on the Org2 tab?

Would it make sense to use this for bank branches, knowing an annual solicitation is going to the Parent?

Or if two employees are supposed to receive mail at two separate locations, can I simply have them both on one record?  Will the Export process correctly?

Thanks,

Chris

We use parent corp field to record the name of record for HQ bank on each of the bank branch office records and other relationships like that.  Don't know how you would filter out local branch from your annual solicitation only using parent corp field.

The two employee question more involved. Are you exporting data or processing letter thru Mail?  In mail you can set options to mail to each contact, HOWEVER, it will apply those settings to all records not just the one where you want to send it to two employees. Address used will depend upon how you have entered your data.

In Export if you configure it to pull 2 contacts of XXX type and will do so for each org but contacts will be on same line/record.

  • We use it the same way as JoAnn -- but beyond that, I have found its usefulness to be a little flat. It does not reciprocate the relationship and I still have to create a link on the relationship tab to do this.

    Thanks,

Has anyone used Parent Corp in this way.   Donor has (3) organizations and one is business is the main one.  In the other (2) orgs i put the main business as the Parent Corp.  Is there anyway to get a report based on the Parent Corp givng and 2 business under the Parent Corp??

Im trying to make an easy way to get a report for a donor wall.   For instance this Parent Corp (and the 2 children orgs) gave = $50,000.00.   Instead of having to figurre out the total giving of each Organization. According to RE the best way is to use soft credits but they havent utilized that and I dont want to go to do all that work on a number of Constitutents.

    Any insights would be helpful

    thanks

    Dwight

    Dwight,

We use the parent corp record. An easy example: Power Co HQ is donor, Power Co office in Town 1 is a donor, Power Co office in Town 2 is a donor. Each have their own RE record to record gifts initiated by them and their contact/address info. We do soft credit HQ record for the branch gifts. Works well for banks and other large firms with offices. To see the total picture it does require SC. If you don't use SC, guess you'd have to manually do some adding of gifts on each record.

We have not used, that I can think of, for a donor with multiple businesses. You'd still have to be aware of any gifts on personal record if there is one to add to the corporate gifts. If you're dealing with an individual, do your procedures allow for SC all the businesses to the individual? Just a thought.
  • Right now the company has not set standards on SC from an Individual to Organizations, or from Org to Org for that matter.

So what I did so far was a quick fix not using SC.  For all the Orgs involved i put the Parent Corp name under each Organziation including the Parent.  If i run a Gfit Query and pick from Constituent info the Parent Corp name all the Orgs and their gifts will be listed.  Then to get the Individual donations, I created an Attribute Parent/Child and the Description equals the Parent Corp name. Now I can include the Attribute in the Query.  Then the query will include all gifts from all Orgs with the Parent Corp name and Individual with the Attribute Parent/Child: Parent Corp Name.

Would you know that if i had to SC past gifts to the Parent Corp could that be done in global change or would I need to go each gift record and do it manually?

While there is an option under Constituent to SC for spouse gifts there's not one for orgs. And not possible with a global change either that I see. Think you're doing manually.

PS be sure to document your procedure so others will be able to know what/how you're achieving this. Sounds like a lot of work if SC is an option.
