Cannot delete incomplete address

Options

I ran a clean-up query to identify "send mail" check box status

Preferred Address = one of. . .  Home, Work, Main, Business

AND send Mail To = No

I have a long list of constituents that have an additional address on the record of "Business" with nothing else on the address and I cannot delete it. I've attached a screenshot ot the address record.

Any ideas?

I had something like this years ago.  Couldn't get rid of blank and/or dup addresses.  Does the person have a relationship to a business?  If I remember correctly support said it was caused by address info on a relationship of some type.  Maybe start by checking there.
  • That was the problem. Fixed!

    Thank you
  • The relationship that was blocking the address deletion was actuaally on 1175 records. Only a name; no coresponding record, no address or contact info.It was added to the records in 2011.

I created a Relationship query based on the name in the org relationship field and a Global Delete for the relationship.

    Thanks for your help
  • I see this happen often when the Primary Businesss is checked on the Bio1 tab. To delete the address requires to go to relationship through the Business tab on the Bio1 page and uncheck "primary business". That keeps the information on the relationship tab and removes it from the address tab.
  • But if the constituent only had that one address, when you uncheck 'primary business' on the relationship, this business address will NOT automatically be removed.  The system will not automatically remove it -- because it was the only address on the record and therefore the primary address.

So yes, you do want to control it from the relationships, but you still need to check to see what happens on the address tab.  You may have to manually make that business address 'previous' by changing the address type, unchecking send mail etc.

And you also may need to mark the constituent as 'No Valid Address' as well (depending on how you use this).
