Default Solicitor On Pledge and Recurring Gifts After the Solicitor Leaves the Organization

Options
Has anyone come across a situation where you have an assigned solicitor bring in a pledge or recurring gift, then the solicitor leaves the organization?  A new solicitor is assigned, but the previous solicitor continues to be the default solicitor assigned to pledge and recurring payments.  The new solicitor wants to be assigned to the new payments to see that gifts are coming in from their prospect.  Is there a way to have the new solicitor be the default solictor assigned to the pledge payments?  The work arounds that I can think of is to either change the assigned solicitor on the original pledge to the new solicitor or to change the pledge amount to make it paid off and create a new pledge with the new assigned solicitor.

Any thoughts out there?

Thanks!

Michael

Yes, Michael, all you need to do is change the solicitor on the pledge or recurring gift.  Original solicitor will still show on payments received but 'new' solicitor will be default when entering new paymenrs.

If you are integrated with your accounting software I would not write it off/create new pledge because it will change the accounts receivable long-term and short-term.
  • I would first check out the policy in your department regarding changing the original solicitor on a pledge. How your organization counts pledges and pledges payments towards a solicitor's goals will tell you if changing the solciitor on a pledge is an appropriate action. If you determine it is appropriate, then I would change the solicitor on the original pledge (and make a note of it in the gift record)
  • Any other thoughts on this question? I am experiencing the same situation but do not want to change the solicitor on the original pledge.
