New Year's RE-solutions

Options
Greetings!  Since my Holiday Wish List post was so popular cool let's keep the fun going with sharing our New Year's RE-solutions!  (Ya see what I did there?)

Let's hear what you are hoping will accomplish next year, month, week or whatever.  Could be RE related, or job/career related, or anything else you'd like to share with the Community.

Since it's a "community" the catch is that if you post you promise to check in with others through the Community (on this thread perhaps?) to see how they are doing with their resolutions.  We're going to hold each other accountable and, more importantly, support and encourage each other... because that's what we do.

For some ideas here's a blog post I wrote from 2013:

New Year's Resolutions for Your Donor Database  (those are not my feet)

Happy Everything Everyone!

  • 1. I am going to make my adjusted gift report completely work, pulling directly from the back end of RE. It's most of the way there! But I have to figure out the code for GL distributions for stock gifts and subtype changes.  It's my greatest SQL accomplishment to date, but it's not done yet.

    2. Once that's done, I'm going to make our campaign reporting pull directly from the back end of RE, possibly via PowerQuery in excel, possibly via the brand new PowerBI.  We don't have the funds for Tableau or other pricey data visualization software, so let's see what we can do with what we have.
  • My RE-solution is to get all of our electronic filing ready for RE:NXT Attachments to be fully functional, and then to get everything Attached in it's proper place by the end of the year.

I hope that I'll also be able to find time to make a big dent in my ever-growing data scrub list.

And a big wish for the new year is that we'll get a new Chief Development Officer on board who sees the value in getting a Training Subscription as well as hiring a Development Services Assistant, one who knows something about data entry.
  • 1.  Start recording training sessions so new users, or staff with new responsibilites, can get training on demand customized to our database.

    2.  Eat more chocolate

  • 1. Completed RP & RE Professional Certifications.

    2. Eliminate duplicate records and membership records!
  • I'm really hoping to:

    1) Move to NXT

    2) Get started on TeamRaiser

    3) Kick Sphere to the curb!

Once again, I love your posts, Josh! You're earning that super hero cape. smiley

My resolutions for the RE Community include:

    1. High five every awesome community member I meet. Seriously, you are all rockstars!

    2. Provide more opportunities for all you rockstars to win prizes and earn rewards for being such a helpful and supportive community (hint hint, look for something awesome the week between Christmas and New Years...)

    3. Listen and learn from all of you. I've said it before and I'll say it again - this is your space and I'm a glad steward of your feedback and ideas.

Keep the REsolutions coming and I'll see what I can do to help you all along.
  • I am hoping to:

    1.  Spend more time researching prospects

    2.  Update our procedure manual

    3.  Train additional staff in basic research functionality

Put off no longer: complete that procedure manual.

Get some more great music to listen to while working - have Christmas music cranked now.

Find the big grant that we are the perfect fit for, apply and win it!!!

And maybe, just maybe, since I work at the Y maybe I should work out at the Y!!!
  • 1. Hopefully finish scrubbing database from it's years of misuse as a prep to our 50th

    2. Find more lost peeps also in prep for our 50th

    3. Study/Complete next level of certification

    4. Keep a sense of humor at all times, even with the most ugly of projects/situations
