How to report on the amount raised by a solicitor and the amount they have given themselves -- 45830

Options
I have been trying to figure out if adding a donor as the solicitor is the right way to go.  I'm working with a new organization and this is how they started tracking gifts in order to get the give or get numbers to total correctly.  I'm hesitant to continue because I've got some solicitor reports that are a mess and I feel like I've had some issues with entering solicitors this way in the past.

Can anyone share your experiences?  Do you do this?  Why/why not? Any workarounds?

If you want to track amount raised by an individual, to me solicitor is the way to go.  Solicitor reports can be cleaned up or maybe just start new.

To get totals that are accurate for a fund, you just have to be sure that every gift has a solicitor with correct amount credited.  You can check for that with a query.

The solicitor analysis report is one of our most used reports.
  • I guess I'm specifically trying to make sure I'm not going to get anything funky by making someone the solicitor on their own gift. So John Smith has a give or get goal and his own gifts count towards that so he's the solicitor on his own gifts. I don't think my wording was clear on that in the original post.

Having constituent as their own solicitor doesn't make anything 'funky'.  We frequently have this scenario.  Have had no problems as long as all the solicitor relationship data is entered correctly.
  • the only thing that I can think of right off the top that would make the reports "funky" is if there were peeps that are marked as Solicitors that are not currently and they muddle the reporting.  Otherwise sounds like you are on the right track.

Just a bit more re solicotors.  Our solicitors are assigned by fund. (Have tried by appeal also but RE missing key functionality to import solicitor appeal assignment links and it's not available field when linking to solicitor in batch either.) When entering gifts by batch, I have appeal/fund/campaign field before solicitor field.  This gives auto fill of assigned solicitor for that appea/fund/campaign.

Reports could get messy if more than one solicitor is assigned for the appeal/fund/campaign.  We only assign one.

All solicitors are entered on the fund record.  For solicitor analysis report on solicitor tab we pull by fund goal which brings in list of solicitors on the fund record.  Has worked well for our structure.
  • Thanks.  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to get into some endless solicitor loop or something.
