Adding soft credit after splitting from family to individual accounts

Hi all,



Is there a way, other than going into each gift, to get soft credit on the spouses after an account is changed from a family account to individuals?

    I’m not sure I understand the full situation.  Changing and account from Family to Individual makes me think that the Name Format was changed.  Changing the Name Format doesn’t really affect the account other than giving you the option to enter a First Name and Last Name on the account.



    So if you had an account that was John And Mary Smith using a Family name format, changing them to an Individual name format wouldn’t really do much to the whole account.  You would just enter John and Mary into the First Name field and Smith into the Last Name field.

     

    Did you have a single account that was John and Mary Smith and then split it into two separate accounts (one for John and one for Mary)?  If so, you would want to link the two accounts together using a household relationship.

     

    In the situation where John Smith donates, you wouldn’t need to soft credit Mary Smith.  Since the accounts should be in a household relationship, that gives you the ability to look at household total giving when doing reports or letters.

    Are you referring to when someone is in a household relationship and/or both names were being kept in one account in a Family name format, and you split them off into two individual separate accounts, and are you saying you would actually like both records to still have a record of a gift--so one account will have the hard credits, and you want to actually automate it so that the second account is soft credited for all the gifts? As Justin mentioned, if they are in HH relationship, you won't need to do that since you can use the HH list view when looking in a journal and the HH summary fields when you are exporting. But if your intent is actually to remove the HH relationship entirely (such as if they got divorced), then I can see why you would want both accounts to still have a record of the gift.



    I don't actually have a good answer for you (I thought it might work to import the soft credits in bulk, but I just tried it and I don't think you can do a soft credit import. At least, I couldn't get it to work.) But maybe someone else has a better answer--I just wanted to see if I could clarify your question.

    Yes, KC. That's exactly what I mean. For example, I have a record in a family format ... Mr. & Mrs. John Doe. I split it into one record for John Doe and a second for Jane Doe. Theh created a spousal relationship for them. Since John was the converted record and Jane was added, I want to give Jane soft credit for all the gifts on John's record. 



    I really hope I can find a way to do this ...
