Summary Gift query field Doubles Gift figure on split gifts!!!

Dear Blackbaud,



I've discovered when attempting to search for some quick insights for some reporting on summary giving in a query, that if a gift is split, the summary gift amount or summary gross gift amount will double the figure displayed in the query. i.e. the Gift amount is £500 - the gift is split by £250 for different funds or appeals. The summary gift amount is £1000. Big error.

    You would be better off creating a new case (https://www.blackbaud.com/casecentral/casesearch.aspx) rather than relying on Blackbaud staff to spot this post on the forum.



    I've just had a quick look at this myself and can't get it to reproduce what you're describing. It may be worth checking which gift types you're including in the summary, in case you're counting both the pledge and the pay-cash, for example.



    To quote the Blackbaud mantra, "query is a grouping tool, not a reporting tool". I'd advise using an export for anything financial, as using query can sometimes give incorrect totals due to duplicate rows.

    You really need to be using a report or an Export of Summary on Gifts.  Query is just a tool to gather a group of records together, not to report. wink

    While Query is a grouping tool, you may have luck if you change out Gift Amount for Split Amount...I believe any of them will work, and you will find Split Amount fields under the Campaign, Fund, and Appeal sections in Query.  No guarantee that there won't still be issues, as, again, Query is simply a grouping tool.

    Not to take your post any further off topic, but yes, there are query and reporting issues when it comes to split gifts.  If you search previous posts you'll find issues others have encountered and why many of us do not use the split gift option.  Could be a great feature.  Per BB, it's "functioning as designed."

    The Query Export will list a gift multiple times if
    the gift is split. There are two solutions. The first is to still
    us the Query Export and retrieve the split amount for the campaign,
    fund or whatever else is split. The second is to use the Export
    module to report on the query. In that case, splits become multiple
    columns, but a gift has only one line in the output file.
