Best way to connect gifts to Constituents *without* Soft-Crediting?

Options
Hey everyone,

Our Board of Directors has a give/get requirement, meaning each member must either donate or solicit a minimum amount of money each year. We're looking for the best way to identify the solicited gifts that apply to this quota in RE:. At other organizations where I've worked, Soft-Credit has been used, but we don't want to do that. Thinking ahead for when I have to pull the Give/Get report, what would be another good way to track this?

Solicitors?

Reference or Attribute?

Not sure what would be easiest to report on and to track. Any ideas?

  • I'd go with Solicitors.  References are too free-form (slightest typo and they won't show up) and while you could do it with Gift Attributes, my philosophy is to use Attributes only when there's no other way to do it.
  • I'd go with Solicitors as well...that's really what the Solicitor function is for.  Plus, if you chose, when you move to NXT, you can get your board members set up to access the records for which they are assigned as solicitor; then they can add Actions, Proposals, Notes, etc.  And if they need to be assigned as a solicitor before making an ask, you can ensure that only one board member will be talking to any one donor (or at least they'll be aware and able to work together in making an ask).

If you can't use Solicitor for some reason, I would use an Attribute, with a drop down to select the name.
  • Ditto, solicitor.  To me is the intended use of function.  You don't have to change anything.

For their own gift to pull assign them to themselvers.  You don't even have to mess with queries.  Use Reports, Analytical Reports > Solicitor Performance Analysis and get report or use data to report to excel etc.  Works really smoothly.  We use this function for every campaign with solicitors.

You can pull solicitor field in batch gift entry.  If appeal/fund field is first, solicitor field will auto fill with assigned solicitor for that appeal/fund.

I would give the solicitors a type and from and to dates when making the assignments.  May not factor now, but later it will give you cleaner data.
