Board Giving policy

Options

Does anyone have a policy on what is required of your board members to do?  Give or get a certain amount, attend a certain number of meetings, etc. that you'd be willing to share?  Thanks,

  • Not sure if you're still waiting for an answer on this one, but we just adopted this policy this past fiscal year and I'm struggling with how to accurately report it out in an efficient manner. This policy includes outright gifts, soft-credit gifts (from a family foundation or their company), solicitor credit, and volunteer hours (specifically dedicated to development activities, like attending events as an ambassador of our org or making thank-you calls to donors).

The board members have to self-report on solicitations and volunteer hours (and the hours are converted into $$ based on an hourly figure our volunteer coordinator came up with based on national standards....)

If you have a a slick way to do this, let me know. Sorry for the delayed response :)
  • Hi Anita,

I would suggest you create a specific constituent code to track your boad members.  You can use the board member constituent code on the gifts so you can quickly report on them.  This give you the ability to compare board giving from year to year even when the constituent is no longer part of your board.

In terms of volunteer hours, that's trickier.  While we have that expectation of our board members, we do not track volunteer hours as a gift.  Do you have the volunteer module?  Could you track it as an event?   We do record event attendance in RE.

    Good luck.

    Debra
