Allow donors to cover transaction fees

I've been asked by our development department if it is possible to offer the online donor in NC to cover their transaction fees?  they see that network for good offers that and want it too.  



We simply mention that we lose 2.7% of each donation on the online donation page hoping they would up their donation.  Development would like them to be able to easily add that to their donation.

    For whatever reason it seems like this question is coming up a lot lately.  I don't have a technical answer for you (although I don't think it is possible to check a box and automatically recalculate the donation amount) but I wouldn't add this to a donation page.  I don't think I would donate to an org that has something like that on their page either.  It's just the minimal cost of doing business and I think it would turn donors away.  For me it would be a red flag and make me wonder how financially fit the organization is if they are worrying about a 2.7% fee.  There are plenty of other ways to cut back on expenses.



    I looked at your donation page to see how you mention the fee and I'm picturing potential donors reading that, deciding to mail the gift form in instead, printing it out and then never getting around to actually mailing it.  



    Network for Good is a different situation where they are collecting donations for other nonprofits so I wouldn't want to copy their example.
