Trying to import: all of my data is being picked up as a column header

Options
Hi!

I just did a test import of 3 records from Wealth Engine into Raiser's Edge. It worked! When i went to do the exact same thing with the whole batch of data (400 records), RE is picking up every single rox of data as if it were a column head.

But there are only 5 columns on the actual excel sheet. After it picks up those 5 as import field names, the next import fields are all the data that should be in those columns. Any ideas?

Here is a screen shot.

On tab 2 of Import, what option do you have selected for "Import Field"? Do you have 'Field names are on the first line of the import file' selected?

    Just first thought....
  • Is the system you are importing from a *nix system?  If so, RE is not seeing returns at the end of the line.
  • I've had a similar, but slightly different issue recently in which all of my column headers were picked up as being one single column header mashed together. In my case, it was an issue of settings on the File Layout tab. I might have opened a .CSV file in Excel to work with it, then somehow saved it as tab-delimited rather than comma-delimited, and changing the settings on that tab from Comma to Tab as the delimiter helped. Is it possible that something like this happened to you? Just a thought.
  • Thanks. Very odd. I tried starting over with a .txt file instead of .csv and it seemed to work this time.
