Part targetting to first time log-in only?

Options
Hi,

We are about to go live with our new Alumni Directory site with a mail-out of login details to 7,500 current users. I was wondering if there was a way of me targetting a part to just first-time users.

If that's not self explanatory enough here's an example! - when a user logs in for the first time they see a part that is a note 'welcome - please take a moment to read through our FAQs and get used to the new service', but then upon logging out and back in the message is no longer visable.

Any ideas??

Thanks.

  • You could do this if you included an attribute in a Profile Form part on the same page. You could call the attribute something like "DismissedWelcome" and make it a yes/no constituent attribute.

Set the label for this attribute to say something like "Don't display the welcome message again".

Then, in Raiser's Edge, create a query (named something like "Show Welcome Message") to find all constituents for whom this attribute = no (which, initially, will be all constituents).

Back in NetCommunity, create a role based off of the query above....named something like "Show Welcome Message".

Then set the Targeting & Security of the welcome message to appear only for those with the "Show Welcome Message" role.

Once they check the box to dismiss the message permanently (and you process the associated profile update), they will fall out of the "Show Welcome Message" query and out of the corresponding role as well. When that happens, they'll no longer see the welcome message.

Another tweak is that if you have a message that you'd like to appear in place of the welcome message, you could place each message into its own Formatted Text & Images (FTI) part and place both in a Targeted Content part on the welcome page. The Targeted Content part will then show only one of these FTI parts or the other (based on each FTI part's Targeting & Security settings)...but never both.

    Hope that helps Tom.
