Latest version of Gmail categorizes our emails as promotion

Options
Gmail's latest revision sorts email into 3 categories: primary, social & promotions. Our emails are being categorized as promotions, which is basically the same as spam. Does anyone know how we can keep our emails from being categorized as promotions?

  • Google's Gmail automatically categorizes all in-bound emails into one of several new tabs. Unless you are manually sending emails out from Gmail, it is impossible to avoid this filtering.

But don't panic! There are several things that you can do to help your supporters:

    1. Gmail users can move emails from the "Promotions" tab to the "Primary" tab in one simple click.

    2. You could send an email to all constituents with an @gmail.com address with a call to action to move your emails to the "Primary" tab.

    3. Keep sending clean, clear, and consistent content.
  • Hi Dee,

In addition to Steve's great suggestions above, be sure you educate your constituents that there's a more solution that's should be a permanent fix for individual emails. If they drag your organization's email from the promotions tab to the primary tab, they'll get a pop-up that asks: "Do this for future messages from info@org.com?" They can click yes & it will remember that preference for future emails. After moving, it will let them know that future messages from that address will be moved to primary.

    Hope that helps!
