Flash code does not work on https pages (when logged in), but works fine on http (non-secure) pages.

Options
We are embedding flash code (from photobucket) on this page:

http://cfocf.org/Vivos-Christi-Society

The Flash code renders perfectly when you are not logged into the site (HTTP), but as soon as you're logged in (HTTPS), the Flash code no longer renders ... possibly because the sources are "http" sources vs. "https"?

I've tried changing sources to be "https", but BBNC automatically changes my source back to "http".

I've also tried implementing a "Flash Player" part for this and the same issues occur. Even using "//" instead of "http://" works OK when not logged in, but fails after logged in.

  • Hey Andy,

Have you put the code into an unformatted text part? If not, let's try that part and set it to HTTPS and see if it sticks. Code not sticking sounds like we're using a formatted text and image part instead of an unformatted text part.

    Thanks!

  • I went around and around with support and even with Karen on this one. Using https is absolutely the solution, but there are some hosting services for which https is not provided. We had our photos hosted on SlideshowPro, but they don't offer a secure server option. Someone in support suggested I try the Frame part. From what I've heard, loading content in an iframe that is not secured is more reliable than pulling it from an unformatted text part. It took pasting that embed code into a page on a different server and using an iframe to bring in the content, but it worked.

On a different note, when we found image gallery solutions that were flash-only, we ditched them. We have too many visits on mobile devices. It is about 25%, so anything that is flash is on my kill list. I still have some flash here and there on my site, but everything new is done with html5 and javascript.

I hope the iframe option helps. We ended up hosting our own installation of SlideshowPro on our own secure server so that I can use the unformatted text parts with the https URL's.
  • Hey Andy,

To give a little context to what Jamie's talking about here. If the place you're pulling the code from does not support HTTPS, there's no workaround. If it's something like that, then you'll want to look for an alternate way to do the flash code.

    Thanks!
