How do you get Searchable education history to work in NC?

Options
Our Alumni Search functionality works fine if we base it on just the Primary Alumni qualifications, but if we base it on Education History fields, then the results are hit-and-miss.

We think this is down to the privacy options of Education History records, and the way NC only returns records that are publicly viewable. It seems that historical education details are set up as private by default, so unless we can force every one of our alumni with multiple records to register, log in and update their privacy settings, then most of them won't show up in searches.

Blackbaud are looking into this as a one-off fix for us, but surely this behaviour must be affecting all users of NC?

So, - Have you been affected by this issue, and how have you got around it?

  • Hey Martin,

The fix for this is pretty easy. We can change what fields are private by default under Administration, Field options. Once you've confirmed that's all set how you want please make a new directory part and delete the old one. Do not copy your directory, that won't work. The new directory will take the settings you have set under Administration, Field options.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for the suggestion Karen, but it didn't work!

I set the default privacy options on the Primary Alumni fields I needed (Leave Year, Subject, Qualification), deleted every directory part from the site (and from the deleted parts folder), created a new directory part and it still has the incorrect behaviour. If I search by name, a grad shows up, but if I enter their graduation year etc as part of the search, then they don't show up.

The default privacy options in Administration only show the Primary Alumni fields, and not Education History fields - is this part of the problem?

    Thanks,

    Martin.
  • Hey Marin,

It sounds like this needs to be a support case.

    Thanks!
