Prospect Research in Raiser's Edge

Options

I am a prospect research analyst and just started a new job.  This is my first experience with Raiser's Edge and Research Point. At my previous job we wrote profiles in Word and were starting a project to enter research data directly into the database (Banner).  The "profile" would eventually consist of a report generated from the database.  I would love to hear how other prospect researchers store and report their work out of Raiser's Edge and whether anyone is entering their work product directly into the database without attaching it as a flat Word file to the record.  Thank you!

Hi Lisa, I am the database manager for RE and the prospect manger for Research Point here at the Foundation. We use the canned prospect reports along with query and export to report on our prospects & proposals. We link/sync directly from Research Point into RE so that all the data is on the prospect tab. Few staff have access to the financial data in the prospect tab, but all can see the giving to other organization data. We are a small organization, about 27 staff and most of us work with donors and prospects to establish named funds at the foundation. Feel free to email me with specific questions. Karen

  • My institution is in the process of converting our prospect profiles in Word into our new RE database. There is information that we included in the Word profile--such as description about the past relationship-- that do not have a clear place in RE. I specifically work with foundations and would like to include information on the foundation's mission, relationship/history with our organization, and other funding notes.

Does anyone have suggestions for how to set this up in RE? I expect the answer is in the notes tab, but how do you categorize your notes so they appear in a nice format in the prospect profile? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  • Shelly - If you Categorize the Notes with the Note Type.  And you could make it : Prospect: Relationship History, Prospect: Mission, etc.  That way they would all come out together and anyone would know it is related to prospecting as opposed to just general notes.

There is a funding interests area on the prospect tab.

You could put affilate notes under Relationship tab, each relationship has a note tab to itself though I'm not sure that comes out on the canned reports.

Love that ResearchPoint syncs to RE and there is a canned report that can give you all the info on that constituent record.
  • Thank you for your suggestions, Christine. Do you find your notes types named as you mentioned can be used by both major gift officers and corporate and foundaiton relations officers?
