Mobile and Event App Encryption Level Concerns

Options
We are looking at using the Raiser's Edge Mobile App and Event App.  According to Blackbaud's documentation, the apps use Microsoft Azure service bus with 128-bit encryption.  Our IT department has said that this is older technology and, in their opinion, not secure enough for an app that is opening up a connection to our database. I have not been able to get any information from Blackbaud in regards to whether or not they are planning to improve this.

How have others dealt with this?  Are you comfortable with the encryption level?  Are there other things you have implemented to increase security or gain a level of comfort?

Thank you,

  • We do use RE Mobile App and RE Events App. RE Events app is still in testing phase. We do know that it uses Microsoft Azure Service bus that provides 128-bit Encryption. At the same time, We also know that the data you are pulling/searching in to the app is limited and I don't think any confidential information about constituent is pulled from RE using this apps as far as I know.

As far as my knowledge goes, They use this technology for transferring the data securely from one endpoint to another, Like from Database to webservice server(Where we install this webservices) to Azure  to Mobile application server to Mobile App.

I think its all about the data you can access using the app verses the level of security.

  • We are currently using both Mobile Pay and the Event APP, they work wonderfully with the integration with RE. As Dharmit says, the information that is sent between the two is minimal.  All the credit card numbers are incrypted, even on the BBMS sign in account so we are comfortable with the level of encryption.

Also, I believe the Event app is out for general release and in early phases instead of testing phase.  There are definately enhancements that are needed with the event app as in MORE fields available, but that is another story/disucssion.
