Insurance premium payment gifts and how to send reminders

Options
Our organization has received a number of life insurance planned gifts. In many instances the donors send premiums directly to us as a charitable donation which we then use to pay the premium. I've been asked to come up with a methodology to generate reminders to donors about due dates for premium and their donation options. I talked to a rep at Blackbaud and they suggested handling it through Recurring Gifts rather than Pledges.

I was wondering if any other organizations provide reminders to their donors for Recurring Gifts and if so, what their best practices might be. Do you receive insurance premium gifts? How do you handle them?

Thanks much!

Hi Teri! Great question! Here's a similar conversation in the community you might check out.
  • We have ours set up as pledges because they were for a certain number of years.  If it was ongoing, I would use the recurring gifts.

  • Thanks Holly, but that discussion doesn't have anything to do with my question. We already know how to enter the gifts we receive. We are interested in best practices around setting up and sending reminders for insurance premium gifts.
