Query/Export on Active Proposal Records only

Options
Sorry for double posting - just realised I posted this to 7.94 Q&A

I'm trying to run an export, based on a query to pull information from only active proposals.  Query works great but when I use that query in my export it is pulling all the proposal records - active & inactive even though I have not ticked the box to include inactive. Very frustrating.... has anyone else had this problem and found a solution.  Work around is to manipulate the date after I pull my export.  Wish they had a sub group of queries & exports for Proposals - as they do for Constituents, Actions, etc

  • Hi Jackie,

It's disappointing how poorly supported proposals are throughout the other areas of RE - rather than being treated like 1st class chilld objects like actions and gifts, they are treated like simple extenstions of the constituent record (a bit like attributes).

One workaround that I've seen is to create a "Purpose" called "Inactive" or similar. I'm not necessarily endorsing this idea - we don't use it at my current organisation because we find it useful to keep the original purpose of inactive proposals - but it's pretty much the only way to filter them out of exports.

Of course, even this workaround doesn't help the fact that each proposal will have to be in a group of columns rather than one proposal per row. This is a PITA to sort out in Excel. To be honest, my preferred approach is just to do as much as possible with Query and use raw SQL for the stuff that I might be tempted to use Export for.

Sorry not to be able to give you the sort of answer you were probably hoping for!

  • Agreed with everything Tom said.

If you export to Access format, you can tell it to split everything out into appropriate tables, and then use Access to get what you want.  But yeah, it's not so good in RE itself.

To help improve this situation add your votes here:  http://rediscovery.uservoice.com/forums/137015-raiser-s-edge-discovery-topics/suggestions/2861856-make-proposals-a-record-like-gifts-that-can-be-exp

Thank you - hopefully this will get resolved

  • I stumbled upon this today when doing some proposal cleanup -- if you are in import you can create an import file of the proposals. If you chose to make a CSV, you've basically got a proposal export that you can manipulate in Excel. You can include them all or base on a query (const, ind, org, GS). It's not perfect, but better than some of the other options (like getting them all in a row in a constituent export).
