Online Express

Options
We are considering moving to Online Express for our email marketing.  Does anyone know if zip codes can be captured when someone responds to an email? We know that the Luminate platform allows for the capture of zip codes, but haven't been able to get this questioned answered by BB.  Thank you!

  • I saw this on the side bar of our RE. What is
it? And how does it differ from NetCommunity? We continue to use
Constant Contact, because their email marketing platform was
ancient. I’d love to hear from folks using this new product.

The explanation I've had from RE on the difference is this: Online express covers the ability to take payments online, create event sign-up pages for an event and run emails and link all of that information back into RE. Net Community has a slightly bigger scope and is about bulding a "community" online, so somewhere where people will belong, have a log in that they can use to update their own details and interact with other members of the community.

The short answer to your question is Yes.  If you send an email from Online Express (OLX), you can capture ZIP code information if they respond to the email.  This assumes that the response is something like a gift.  If they give a gift in response to an email marketing effort, the gift will come into The Raiser's Edge though OLX.  You would process that gift and since the donor will have entered their credit card information for the gift, the billing information will be there too.  This is what RE will use to link to the correct Constituent record. You can choose to process the updates to add the ZIP code to their record.  (or the whole address if all you have is the ZIP code).

Personally, I think OLX is one of the best products Blackbaud has!  It is slick and easy to use!  One thing I really love is that after you send an email, you can actually view the success of the email by viewing the performance information.  You can add that data to The Raiser's Edge by just clicking a button.  It will create an Appeal record based on the name of the Email you sent, it will add that Appeal to the Constituent records with the correct response.

I hope that answers your question.

    Good morning -

You can find a great deal of information from the Online Express videos located at https://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PLALjs-CzkPwpFbqwdKVQLcbhRxEHmPqPi  Online Express plugs directly into RE, supports embeddable form widgets for email signup, donation, event, and membership.  The form widgets can be used in any CMS driving your website, like WordPress, Drupal, etc.  *For email signup forms, you may only have first name, last name, and email address - not zip code.  The various forms can be styled individually, for colors, fonts, position of fields, labeling of fields - and they are mobile-responsive when placed into your website CMS pages. And the email component is easy to use as long as you don't need a wide range of designs or complexity to your email layout. You also must use query-based lists, no external files.

NetCommunity is entirely different, as it is a true CMS (content management system).  Historically, Blackbaud had 3 flavors: Pro (all-inclusive and licensed), Grow (medium functionality, leased), and Spark (minimal functionality, leased). They just stopped selling Pro this year, very unfortunately.  Creating your entire website (public-facing, not just community), microsite, or individual pages is possible using stylesheet, layout, template, page and part functionality.  There are elements such as directory, user login, profile display/update, event registration, event calendar, personal notes, discussion board, etc., depending on your version. And it has full email functionality built-in, for a full range of templates, messages, campaigns, eCards, scheduled emails, notifications - again dependent on version; as well as flexibility for sending to both query-based lists and external csv files.

  • There is an Online Express webinar on June 23 that I've signed up for.  Maybe they can answer your question.
