Alerts for deceased donors

Is there a resource available that can alert you when a donor has passed away? Such as resource where we could create a watched list as you can in GuideStar for organizations.

Currently we are reviewing the obits in selected newspapers which is time consuming and you only find them if they are listed in that particular publication.

I know you are looking for something that constantly searches against your database, but I have found that running DeceasedFinder annually to work just fine.

We use the deceased finder service. We purchase a multi-year subscription, getting a discount for multi-year use. We run it once a year and are very happy with the results.

We also, review the obituaries receiving alerts from Legacy.com.

We use Blackbaud's deceased record finder but want something that provids alerts. We have a few CGAs and would like to know right away if we should no longer send out the checks; this is the reason I a looking for alerts. I created alerts in LexisNexis but am not getting hits when the person passes away although they have obits or notices in the publications I have listed in my query.

I haven't looked into this so don't know if it's actually available but perhaps Legacy.com or other obit websites have an alert mechanism.

Depending on how big your lists ins you might try this...

I set up google alerts for major donors. You get an email any time a new article or whatever matching your search comes up. You could try the same thing with your list and look for deth notices.

We use ObitRegistry. It is a great service that is reasonably priced. We receive weekly reports of potential matches and are able to search their database.

Check out Tributes.com. You can have alerts sent to you for key words, etc.

We use this as well. They recently changed their name from Obituary Registry to Obituary Data. Very useful tool. Looking forward to checking out Tribute.com as well. Thanks for the link Christine.

I haven’t found anything like an alert
mechanism on Legacy.com, but would LOVE to find out it’s available
in some hidden corner of their site or on another site.

I don’t know about a “watched list,” but you
can at least search for individual obits across a lot of newspapers
and funeral homes on legacy.com. Also, you might want to sign
your organization up to receive gifts via Donatic’s online Givalike
portal (http://givalike.org). It’s free and
you’ll see memorial gifts coming in that alert you to someone’s
passing.

How big is your list? I found this earlier today, but looks rather pricey to do on a regular basis, even if I set parameters to have a smaller list. Or do they have nonprofit pricing?
