Constitudent codes for returning students

Options
I am curious as to what other educational institutions use for consitutent codes related to returning students. We use "student" for current student, "graduate student" for grad students, and alumni for grads of both Bachelor's and Masters' programs.  Does anybody use a separate code for Masters' grads?  What about for students who never graduated? (Former Student perhaps?) or for alumni who come back to take further bacheolors courses ("Student Post Bachelor"??).

  • We use Alumni-Undergraduate and Alumni-Graduate as constituent codes to break down those with each level of degree. We use former student for those we have some kind of school information on but may have never graduated.  We do not track if someone is currently a student as we do not have access to that data with our current structure.
  • Can't you just have Alumni and then if you need further definition you pull on their Degree level under Relationship/Education Tab?  The schools I have been in have had access to current Student info so that has been a category.  For those that took classes but never graduated, we always wanted them clearly defined because there were most often things we did not do with those records so we had a Alumni-NoGrad code.
  • I agree with Christine Cook in that we use Alumni as the constituent code and define Undergrad, grad etc. within the Education relationship.  If we have a record we've coded as Student and they don't graduate we change the constituent code to Non-Grad.  We are not the main student records database so we don't track all students.  We maintain records only for those we have reason to communicate with for events or as donors.  If an Alumni returns to the university we update their education record when they receive an additional degree/major.  Prior to that we do not add or alter the constituent code.
