Here's an intermittant problem I can't seem to track down, when running Crystal Reports from RE on some (not all) custom reports I get the above error. The error pops up after I:

Click Export Report Icon >>

Choose Adobe Acrobat (PDF) Format >>

Hit OK Button >>

Choose Page Range "All" (default) >>

Hit OK Button >>

Set File Name and Local Save Destination >>

Hit the Save Button >>

Error >>

Pound Head on Desk

Any help would be appreciated, the SAP help pages are just impossible.....

  • I've had this happen every now and then for various reasons:

Someone else has the rpt file open.

Someone else has the report open in RE.

Fonts, I've tried using non standard fonts and it's happened (currently stick to Times New Roman and Arial).

A subreport or other linked file can't be accessed by my computer (excel file added to a report but that excel file isn't on the server).

    I hope that helps.
  • Hmmm .... FONTS. This report does have some "Special Fonts" which I had to download and install. Thank you, I will see if a font update clears this issue. On a related topic, I am able to Print to PDF, just not Export to PDF.
  • Thanks to Andrew! The special font was indeed the issue.
  • Yes, the fonts are tricky! I used to have complaints from users that I created reports for that the font was whacky - some of the fields were illegible. It was fine on my end because I had the fonts installed - but they didn't. You have to stick with the basics, unfortunately.

Sticking with the basics is best, but if you need to have things in a certain typeface, you can have Adobe embed the fonts in the document if you print to PDF rather than exporting, as Patrick discovered.
  • Print to PDF works!  Thanks!
