email addresses?

Options
I am importing a group of organizations into the Raiser's Edge and their contacts.

My dilemna is where to store the email address if an email account belongs to the contact and not a generic email of the organization. Ok, you will say, this is a dumb question. The answer to it is store in the contact's record.

True (or maybe not) but, when I link a query of this group of organizations to send e-blast through NetCommunity, it will only display one email, which the one in the main record.

How do you deal with this kind of scenario?

  • I think the only way you can get NetCommunity to recognize all the emails for your contacts is to make each one of them their own individual constituent. This was the solution for married couples that wanted separate emails to different email accounts when I broached the subject before with Blackbaud. Hope it doesn't create a ton more work for you!
  • You can always export out the contact name and contact email address, and then create an imported list for use in BBNC. But if you want the list to be linked directly to a query, then yes you have to create a record for the contact.
    • Our internal protocol is to create a constituent record for any contact that has an email address. So I periodically scan the database for any contact record that has an email but hasn't had a record created, and I'll convert these into their own record.
