We have a day of online giving in our state, all of the donations go through Razoo, they take their fees out and then send us a check.  We want to be able to give credit to the donors for the amount they meant to contribute, but also put the amount that we recieved into the database as well.  Suggestions?

  • Assuming you have a list of donor names and gift amounts, you'll need to do some soft crediting.  There are many posts debating how to handle this and fees and other concerns.  Perhaps a post discussing United Way gifts could be relevant to you.

Nicole - Why would they need to do SC?

Don't have time for indepth answer.  Not familiar with Razoo.  How you enter can depend upon your org procedures.  Can you enter full amount in RE and have accounting deal with actual amount received and fees as cost of doing business?  If they are an agent passing money through I wouldn't mess with SC.  I'd put on each donor record.  You could consider putting intended gift amount in gift amount and received amount in receipt amount.  Can get a bit messy.  Of put one of the amounts in reference field.  Depends on how you may need to report on money at some point in future.  Do you want intended amount to pull for donor total giving?  If so, needs to be where it will pull.  Just a few quick thoughts.

  • Perhaps I misunderstood -- I assumed she mean she had a gift from a third part and wanted to credit the individual donors for their portions.

Razoo would be considered an agent to pass money through.  I believe what you suggested having the accouting folks deal with adjusting would be correct.

    Thanks

  • This sounds similar to something we have in King County called the GiveBIG.  For one day, donors go to the Seattle Foundation's website and can decide which organization they want to donate to and those organizations will also get a portion of matching funds from the Seattle Foundation.  Even though the donor is on the Seattle Foundation's website, if a donor gives through our profile, the credit card donations come directly to us minus the Seattle Foundation's fees.  I enter each donation on the donor's record as a hard credit for the full amount they gave, accouting then deals with tracking the associated fees on their end.
  • We do the same as Ann - hard credit donors and let accounting deal with the fees.
  • We also have accounting deal with fees.  We have a separte form when we submit a batch to our finance office with a line for fees.
