Adding a new "pay method"

Options

Hi,

when I am in my batch I need to enter a pay method. I click on the arrow and from the drop-down menu I can only select one of the following: Cash, Personal Check, Business Check, Credit Card, Direct Debit, Other.

Is there a way to add one or two more pay method to this list?

 Thanks in advance!

Sorry, Emanuele, you can't add new pay methods. I believe there is a suggestion to be able to do this.

Just curious what other pay methods you want to add?

As for me,  I had always wished there was a money order option.

    Stocks and e-checks for example

Just curious, Emanuale.  Stock is a gift type - why do you need it as pay-method?  Don't you sell the stock and end up with a cash gift?  Or does your org maintain ownership of the stock shares?

  • I would first ask why is it important to track this information?  It isn't vital to data entry but you could always use the Gift Code on the Miscellaneous tab of the gift as you cannot add or change the Pay Method.

We record Stock gifts as in-kind gifts in gift type. Our stock broker has instructions to sell the stock as soon as it comes in so we can receive the proceeds quickly. That way, when we receive the check, the pay method is still a business check. We record what the stock is in the gift reference section. The auditors don't seem to care, as long as it's documented.

As far as money orders go, I would record it as a business check and reference it in the gift reference section again.
