Updated No. Solicited for Packages

Options
My organization is brand new to a full year-round direct mail campaign and we mailed our first official mailing last month. A total of 13 packages were mailed, but each package has a number of different source codes that signify the list the address came from. For example, our first acquisition mailing had 20 different sub-packages. Currently, this is how we are coding these gifts: Campaign: FY2015 Campaign Fund: Annual Giving or Major Giving Appeal: Acquisition [Date of mailing], Lapsed [Date of mailing], or Renewal [Date of mailing] Package: 10-digit Source Code When I imported all the possible Package IDs for each Appeal, I updated the No. Solicited for the Appeal record for by querying donors that received that particular one. However, since I can have upwards of 30 Package IDs for each Appeal, doing the same thing for each package is daunting and a time-waster in the end. Does anyone have an easy way of updating each Package ID's No. solicited that doesn't have to involve going into each Package ID record and updating it through a query each time?? Joanne

Or, is recording No. Solicited for each Package even helpful?

You can import your Package information, and it will be linked to your Appeal record.

A side note, do you really need a 10 digit package code?  We have three to four hundred packages for each appeal (a lot, I know) and we only use a four digit package code.

and yes, number solicited for package codes is helpful, assuming you want to know how each package did.  If not, then why have packages at all?

Thanks for the insight. Though, the No. Solicited for each Package isn't automatically updated, is my point. Is there a reason why this is? Good point about not needing to use the 10-digit source code. I suppose our 6-digit package code suffices, and I can place the 10-digit source code in the Marketing Source Code field.

Not sure what you mean by the number solicited for each package isn't automatically updated.  For us, we receive a list of the package ID and descriptions from our mail house and use that as the import file.  It looks something like this, which includes number solicited.

Oh, I see where the confusion is. I'm talking about important Constituent Appeal/Packages into each constituent record. I'm guessing this type of import does not updates package numbers automatically. What I see here is that you import the number solicited... This makes more sense!

Correct, especially for acquisition mailings where the constituent is not in your database yet.
