Grant for software

Hello,

I would like to know how other organizations code donations that are specific to software for the organization.  This is the first time our organization has written a proposal for something needed in our office. Typically grants support land purchase or home building. I'm thinking I just need to create a new fund but wanted your thoughts/suggestions.

Actually, to me that one depends on your accounting - if software would come from a different general ledger account, I would do a separate fund for it.  If it's the same, it's up to you - software could be noted a number of places on the gift record. 

For us, we have an equipment fund that covers a pretty broad range of 'equipment'. 

I think it's just personal preference and what your org needs for reporting capabilities.
