corporate credit card
If the contact at an organization says their gift will be paid by their corporate credit card, but the credit card gift form only has the individual's name, should it be treated like a DAF? By that, I mean the individual gets hard credit and the organization is soft credited?
Or, what if we hadn't heard from the contact, but knew the gift was from the org and not the individual despite the credit card gift report?
Thanks for your help.

I get the sense that what you are asking is if you know the money is coming from a corporate card do you treat is like an individual gift or organization gift. We see this a lot for ticket purchases.
I would like to know how others are handling this as well. Specifically when it is not their company.
Here, our thoughts are that it is a gift from the company (BBNC even allows an option during payment for this) when there is an indication that it is a company card. But you don't always know. Perhaps they still use home address but it is a company card. Or maybe they use the company name and address (because they want to get mail there), but it is a personal card.
What about acknolwedgements? We would send to company address with individual's name (even if not the primary contact). Do you cc the usual contact?
I know that we can call and ask (and often we do), but I'm interested to see what others are doing in different scenarios.

ShawnAlis,
You have confused me greatly as it sounds as if you are implying a DAF gift is credited to the individual and the organization is soft credited which is not the case.
The question is, who is paying the credit card bill, the individual or the company? Frankly, this gets sticky and sometimes the individual pays but then gets reimbursed. Frankly there is rarely a "corporate" card anymore. It kind of is, but it is under your individual name and affects your individual credit. We simply go by the way the person completed the donation form and assume they will contact us if we credited them incorrectly.
If it is a question you insist on knowing the answer to, you may need to contact the company and ask if they believe they are the donors and want the tax receipt sent to them. I suspect the answer will be different for different companies as they likley have different rules on what they can expense on their corporate cards. Personal donations and purchases may be disallowed altogether by some so those would be clearly corporate gifts. I think you will go down a rabbit hole if you try to research every credit card gift you are given.

Thank you, so much, that does clarify the solution for me. About the DAF, no, I'm aware and compliant that the organization gets the hard credit and the individual gets the soft credit. I meant that in my credit card situation the similarity was that the hard credit went to the one that you don't really have the relationship with--which was the individual in the credit card case. I see how that was confusing!
But, I understand from your reply that if we have documentation stating who wants acknowledgement, then we are not out of line to hard credit the organization, even though the form we get from the credit card company only has the individual's name on it. My manager will be very happy to hear this!
Thanks for your help!

This is always a challenge. We normally experience this problem when we have events. We have added to the event form or transmittal a question aafter the credit card number, is this business or personal? and a box for them to mark.
