Is there a way of creating sub-participant types for each Participant type in TeamRaiser?

Options

The general idea is for our race registration, we currently have Participant Types such as:

1) Non-competitive - adult

2) Non-comteptitve -child

3) Competitive - adult

4) Competitive - child

5) ... etc... list abbreviated for clarity

Since our participation types are 15 or more types, it is a lengthy list of users to scroll through as they register.

What we'd like to see is 'main-participation types' that will then take the users to a 'sub-participation' type, such as:

1) Non-Competitive run

Would then give user sub-participation type of:

Adult

Child

2) Comptetive run

Would then give user sub-participation type of:

Adult

Child

3) ... etc... list abbreviated for clarity

Having sub-participation types would allow us to limit the initial choices to 3 or 4 and then display appropriate sub-participation types.

Any ideas if this possible in TeamRaiser? If so, examples or pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • I've had this same question and from what I can tell and from what I've heard--no, it isn't possible. But it would be a GREAT feature for future upgrades and make my life A LOT easier for making more general changes to participant types and registration questions.

  • From a product perspective, no, there's no such thing as sub-participation types. I do have a few suggestions you could consider:

    1. You could add a few pagebuilder pages to the front of your registration flow and add promo codes to the registration links to narrow down the number participation types a user sees when they hit they page.

For instance, a user visits your TeamRaiser Greeting page, and clicks a button that simply says "register."

They are taken to a pagebuilder page that says "Are you a competitive runner?" with the options "Yes" and "No."

The user hits "Yes" and is taken to a second pagebuilder page, with links to Form a Team, Join a Team, or Register as an Individual - these links are coded with "competitive" promo codes so that only the competitive types will show when the user gets to that page.

The problem with promocodes - they only work if the user follows the flow from the greeting page; you have to hide the "join team" link on all team pages.

The basic premise is to assign the code when you're creating the participation type, then add the promocode to the URL on your pagebuilder/custom page that looks like this: www.yoururl.com/site/TRR?pg=tfind&fr_id=1040&fr_tm_opt=none&s_promoCode=COMPETITIVE.  In this case, this link would lead the user to the individual participation (fr_tm_opt=none) and display the participation types with the promo code "COMPETITIVE."

If you'd like to find out more about about the promo-code process,  please reply to the thread and I'll add some more detailed instructions.

    2. A second option is to add "timing chip" as an upsell, so that you do away with the competitive/non-competitive types and just allow the competitive runners to purchase the upsell to indicate that they are a competitive participant.  Upsells can be configured by going to Fundraising > TeamRaiser > Upsells tab.  Then, when you are configuring the participation types, you can associate the upsell with each participation type.

Again, please reply to the thread if you have additional questions and I'll be happy to help.
