Retention Rate and Ideas
Hi.
I am trying to create a marketing plan for our personal fundraising pages. Coming up with ideas how to promote is the easy part but coming up with a plan on how to retain these users...that's pretty tough.
Does anyone have any ideas? Or have the experience with personal fundraising pages enough to know what keep people coming back?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Kristine

How about...
...a 'best fundraiser of the month' feature on your site?
...a prize for best fundraiser every XX months?
...an email campaign? (Zzzz.)
The first ideas are about creating a repeating 'psuedo event' or goal to shoot for. Something to create a sense of urgency rather than the open ended 'I can just work on that next week' thing. Maybe also coordinate special compition prizes with holidays. 'Best Cancer Awareness Day Fundraiser Award'
I've been thinking about pushing for a prize of a free ticket to one of our events such as a fancy dinner or gala. Doesn't really 'cost' us much if anything, and they can even be a featured special guest. Win-win.
Maybe supply your fundraisers with updated fundraising kits periodically via that email campaign. A suggested story to feature (for us it might be an inspiring hospital patient story) and stuff like that.
Regards, Brian

Thank you Brian, these are great ideas.
We did create a featured page section so that should help.
The ticket to one of your own events is a great idea. I will have to look into that.
Have you been using personal fundraising for a while? If so, how are your results looking?

Just planning and getting rolling with Personal Fundraising here ourselves. Our first campaign is going to be geared for athletic events that we don't do a full-on teamraiser for. "But you can still fundraise by joining Team Children's."

Hi Brian.
I was wondering how your athletic events are going using personal fundraising rather than teamraiser. We want to do that as well. Currently we use teamraiser for other athletic events (other than our walks) and plan to move them to personal fundraising. Any insight?

We're still in the process of rolling it out, but I don't forsee any huge problems so far.
We are still keeping our 10 main events as TeamRaisers (I'm working on two right now!) but we often get requests from our runners to do additional fundraising on our behalf for events that we don't participant in, or smaller events, or via a personal event (like a run across the country.) So we are organizing a program built around personal fundraising to address those missed opportunities.
I've heard that a few other places just use TR for this, but it TR so centered around a specific event date, overall goal, and around interaction between teams and participants, that it feels like the wrong tool.
Cracking the Personal Fundraising module open will also cross over into our revamped Tribute Giving and Corporate Sponsored programs as well. I should be hip deep in PF sites by next year.

Love Brian's idea of featuring personal stories to keep people motivated. Incentives are always great too, if you can provide them. If you can make your constituents feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves and that they really are making a difference, that too will keep them interested and motivated.
For some other ideas, you may want to check out what some of your colleagues are doing. Here are a few examples that may help:
- provides fundraising for life cycle events, volunteer fundraising, memorial and others.
ALS Association - Greater Bay Area Chapter
- uses featured stories and inspires the user to become part of a community. Also has a very clean, simple layout (which I always try to encourage).
- provides fundraising for celebrations, athletic events, and honoring a loved one. Does not feature stories that I can see, but has a very clean and easy to use layout.
- very powerful use of featured stories.
- very powerful and very personal stories where people can support one another, share their experience with Trisomy18 and honor the lives of their children.
If anyone has other examples, feel free to post.
Cheers,
Robin

Thank you for your comments and the links to the other personal fundraising sites. Very helpful.
