Is there a way to setup a payment in the system that if a person does not reach a certain level by a certain date their credit card will get charged?

Thanks

  • Yes there is, though the system is a bit clunky.

It is called Self-Pledge, and it is part of Online Check-in (OCI).

You can set up a Delayed Self-Pledge form, which will do exactly what you are after. The only issue is that this is not part of the registration process, its a separate transaction they must do after registering. No one wants to drag out the wallet again, so it's hard to get compliance. Ya gotta nag em.

A link to the PCI page shows in the Participant Center. Here's one of ours:

So they complete the DSP form, which is mostly just a normal donation form. There must be some small charge to open the transaction, I set it at $1, its a fee that goes toward their end fundraising amount. The form shows them the most it would ever charge (what they owe at the moment) and can do payments.

Then they fundraise. What they owe goes down.

Then after the event you pull a DSP report, which shows what each participant owes to meet minimum goal. You can edit this report to forgive certain people - say they were injured or something. Then you import that edited file and the charges go through.

There is also an Instant Self-Pledge, which enables them to just get it over with up front and pay to meet minimum goal right away. (Don't want to fundraise? Fulfill your minimum goal today.)

Thank you for your help! We will try both options.

Related question: we set up a DSP form, but are having issues with the Delayed Self Pledge report - its only returning 1 participant.

Is there any other report that will deliver the DSP_pledge_ID field? Or any way to find it on a constituent record?

We only have a handful of folks we need to charge, so I can build the DSP upload manually with the appropriate fields, but I am missing the DSP_Pledge_ID field for everyone except that 1 participant that shows on the DSP report.

    Thanks!

"There must be some small charge to open the transaction, I set it at $1, its a fee that goes toward their end fundraising amount. "

Where do you set that $1 at?  I've been searching everywhere and can't find where that is set at.

    Thanks!

    3. Select Event Options

Then look to the bottom right for Related Actions - Edit Advanced Options

    e. Define OCI Options

You'll find it at the bottom:

    8. Delayed Self-Pledge Nominal Amount
