What happens with TeamRaiser Event Affiliation?

What exactly do we get with Event Affiliation of TRs? 



I'm mostly interested in 2 things: 

1) Does it combine thermometers for users, teams and events? 

2) Does it combine the participant search functionality? 



Background: we're trying to decide between 2 scenarios for an event. We want most users to register and optionally fundraise. But we're also continuing a greater emphasis on P2P fundraising, so we'd also like to give folks another Participation Type of mandatory fundraising. 



So we're trying to decide between 2 approaches 

1) 2 TRs 

- TR 1 is "normal" registration with no mandatory fundraising. Marketing collateral mentions fundraising, but the emphasis is on registration. 

- TR 2 is mandatory fundraising. Marketing collateral emphasizes fundraising. 



2) 1 TR. Has a few Participation Types as above (from TR #1), but adds the additional PT (from TR #2) for mandatory fundraising.

 

So with option #2, we're interested in using Event Affiliation to help combine reports and stats. But the help documents don't talk too much about what you actually get with Event Affiliation.
