code for facebook share

Options

Hi Rachel, I'm listening to the lat discussion again when you're dicsussing the facebook share option. You've mentioned the code several times, but I'm not sure where the code comes from...I think it's <a href="http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=.convio.

net/site/MessageViewer?em_id=####.#]]"> BUT, I don't know where to get the message ID number. Can you help?

Also, can you please explain how to create a web viewable version of an email message. I'm gone back through our previous sessions...and Ii'm not sure how to create it myself.

My template's on the way!

Thanks!

  • Hi Rachel...

    Maybe I've figured it out? when I'm in the back end of Convio--I noticed the URL has a specific URL: ...so for our May LD News newsletter, is this the ID.....em_id=7061.0 ?

  • Noah has a great post about Facebook and eMail that might be relevant for you.

    Hi Michaelyn,

    Yes, you are correct that the message id is whatever em_id= in the url when you are in the Convio admin tool viewing a message or when you view the message online from an email link. Each message you create in the email module will have a unique message id and it will always looks like this 1234.0. The .0 at the end represents which variant the message is which will be 0 for most of your messages but if you create multiple variants of a message for A/B testing purposes then those messages will share the same first 4 or 5 numbers but have a different number after the period.

    Example:

    1234.0 variatnt 1

    1234.1 variatnt 2

    1234.2 variatnt 3

    Cheers,

    Ken

    Thanks for all the great replies!

    Here's my note from our call about how to add the FB Share button. You'll also need to upload the FB Share image and update the image ID (graphic attached).

    -->

    <a href="http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=.convio.net/site/MessageViewer?em_id=####.#]]">

    <img src="http://.convio.net/images/content/pagebuilder/#####.png” border="0" alt="Share on Facebook" /></a>

    For Lev Lalev Fund, the code would look something like:

    <!--- Facebook Share Button -->

    <a href="http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=]">

    <img src="http://lev.convio.net/images/content/pagebuilder/23456.png” border="0" alt="Share on Facebook" /></a>

    Now, for the Message Viewer link...

    This is usually at the top of the message. You may have seen "Having trouble viewing this message? View it online instead." or something like that at the top of messages before. To do this, type in the stationery or email message what you want to hyperlink. Next, highlight the text and click on the links icon in the WYSIWYG. Select to "browse Convio links." Now choose "Email" from the types of links. Three types will be listed: Forward Message, View Message, and Unsubscribe. You'll choose to add the View Message type. You link will be added...easy as pie.

    Now, one thing to remember is that when you're just previewing your messages, the View Message link won't work (since you haven't sent the message yet). View Message only works in your inbox so just send a test message to see it in real time.

    All the best,

    rachael
